PORTFOLIO

From the very beginning, I have had an affinity towards any form of art. I love watching movies and plays and also have a passion for singing and music. However, drawing and painting have always been something I connect with. It is an outlet for my frustration and anxiety. You can even say an outlet to express myself.

Along the years, I have learnt a lot in this field and hope to learn more. Whatever I have learnt is only through my school and I am really grateful to the Institution to gain this knowledge. This is some of the work that I have done in the last few years.

11th grade and 12th grade (2020 to 2022)

This is the time when I became more polished in my work. I started using art more as a therapeutic outlet and channelled my mood, thoughts and feelings into my paintings. I started trying out more different styles and methods of art and craft. Take a look at the digital compilation of my portfolio consisting of some of my best work recently.  CLICK on the image below to view.

The above portfolio contains all the artwork I displayed in 2021-22 school exhibition. To view the pictures of the exhibition

9th grade and 10th grade (2018 to 2020)

My art skills really improved in these two years. There was a huge change in the way I used to think and draw or paint in the beginning of 2018 and at the beginning of 2020.  In this time I learnt how to express myself in my own style rather than practising techniques. Till now I was only using water colours, poster colours and colour pencils, but now I was exposed to acrylics, soft pastels, charcoals and many other tools and mediums.

NATURE DRAWINGS

COMPOSITIONS

All these drawings are made by observing real flowers, leaves, fruits and vegetables. Water colours and colour pencils have been used here.

I have always been  attracted to music and musical instruments, though I never got a chance to learn to play one. I made this piece because of that passion for music. My aim was to combine both these forms of art and depict it using soft pastels.

umbrella painting

Painting umbrellas was the perfect idea during the monsoon. Plus it taught me how to paint on curved surfaces. I used acrylic paints for this painting

The medium I have used here is acrylic paints. I have used  hardware parts for the hair like screws, nuts, keys, chains, washers, etc. The way I have arranged them represents all the things in a woman’s head. Her responsibilities, her troubles, her duties, her brain is like a mechanical link of a machine. This is the machine that gives her the strength to face difficulties, gives her solutions to all  problems and still enables her to live a balanced life.

A woman's cpu

Fantasy mountains

This artwork is a replica of a picture from the internet. This was the first time I had used soft pastels and according to me this picture was the best option to learn to use a medium like that because of so many colours merging together.

indian abstract

This drawing is originally an acrylic painting by Satish Gujral. I have made it using soft pastels.

This sketch was the first time I used charcoal and also the first time I made a detailed human potrait.

emma watson

indian abstract

This piece depicts Hindu God Shiva in an Indo Western style. It shows all the essential elements, He represents like the serpent around His neck, His weapon (the trishul) and  the drum (dumru). It portrays Him in a modern way rather than a traditional one.

pastel rose

This drawing too is made of soft pastels. I chose to make this as it made me realise that a small, simple and singular part of something so common can also be beautiful, if it is seen carefully.

michael jackson

According to me, Michael Jackson was a true artist. I was so inspired by his music that I decided to depict an artist by art itself.

Fashion designing

I designed and made  this outfit during a summer course in ISDI School of Design and Innovation. The unique quality about this is that I haven’t made it using a new complete fabric. In fact it’s made out of old “dupattas” (an indian accessory worn with traditional clothes like kurta, suits etc.)

all the bright places

This painting signifies hope in difficult times. The girl in the dark is trapped, surrounded by glass, but a few flowers in one corner represent hope.  The girl reaching for the flowers shows that everyone should always go towards hope in trying times too and never give up.

all the bright places

This is an Indian form of art called Miniature Painting.  I have used poster colours for this painting. This was very new for me as it required many new techniques and also needed a lot more concentration.

human puppets

I received a certificate for this painting in our school’s Art Festival. The topic was ‘Me and my friends woke up to become puppets…….’ . I interpreted it as how people today wake up to be controlled  like puppets by social media. Yes, social media plays an important role in many aspects of life, but we are too dependant on it even at times when it’s not required.

space ramp walk

This is the painting I made in my school’s yearly exam. The topics were Space Fantasy and Fashion Show.  I loved both these topics  and it was difficult for me to choose. Therefore I combined these topics to make my fantasy a fashion show in space. I have used acrylics and painting knives for this piece.

It's raining coffee!!

The topic of my assignment was to make a piece on “monsoon”. The background is painted with diluted coffee. I also poured additional coffee solution in the form of drops so that it gave a feeling of rain. The rest of the elements are made with acrylic paints.

covid 19

I wanted to utilise my time in the lockdown and what better way than painting? Hence, I took part in an online competition and its topic was “Covid 19”. Not only was I able to utilise time, but by making something related to the Corona situation it was also a way to cope with the irritation of being trapped at home and the frustration of all the damage the virus had caused in the world. Additionally, I even came first in my category and won a thousand rupees.

6th grade to 8th grade (2015 to 2018)

In these three years, I learnt art as a skill and also the technical parts of drawing at school. It was more than a mere hobby. The process of creating something was more methodical, but also inspired us to use our imaginative powers. The main focus was not to make your artwork beautiful, but to compose it in a creative and practical way.

These paintings are made using watercolours and crayons. The first aim of this exercise was to create a scene just around one element, in case (1) the element being the deer and in case (2) the element being the small girl. The second aim was to learn  to draw a copy of that element from another picture as it is.

What Makes Fashion?

This artwork is made only using pictures from old magazines. Even the background is a patchwork of multiple pictures of fabric. I chose to stick the pictures in categories of shoes, clothes and bags to show a clear idea of the components of fashion.

Natural Splendour

I made this painting as part of a project on water. I had already depicted the use and the importance of water, that we use so carelessly, in the written part of the report, so I chose to show the beauty of this natural resource through the painting.

The topic for this painting was wildlife. I chose to paint macaws because their brilliant colours intrigued me. At that time it was difficult for me to paint something so detailed, but I took it as a challenge and tried my best.

BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER (In The Literal Sense)

The medium used here is acrylics. This was made by a method called stippling. I used only ear buds for the entire painting. It took a lot of patience and concentration, but it was worth it.

INDIAN FOLK ART

This painting was originally made by Jamini Roy. We all were supposed to try and replicate one of his artworks to experience a traditional form of art. This is a form of Indian folk art.

Wildlife of Marine Drive

Mumbai Marine Drive

We were to make a scene of one memorable place that we had visited, but paint in different animal prints. I chose the scene of the Mumbai Marine Drive. This was one of my favourite exercises because it forced me to think out of the box and get out of my comfort zone. I also learnt how something so messy can be so beautiful.

Jack and Jill Went Up The Hill......

I chose to depict this scene for the topic, Nursery Rhymes. This too was a fun exercise as I was compelled to enhance my visualisation powers. I used poster colours for this painting.

(1) A Colourful Blank slate: The face here is purposely made featureless to depict that everyone is a blank slate. This means that anyone can be whoever he/she wants to and create his/her own colourful life, with the right motivation.

Just The Two Of Us

A Colourful Blank Slate

Just The Two Of Us: This painting depicts the importance of a true person’s company. Even if you have only one person in your life, but he/she is loyal, trustworthy, without ulterior motives and supports you through thick and thin, you have a full life. The world that surrounds you becomes beautiful in your eyes just by that one faithful person’s company.

Both these painting are made on rag cloths using acrylics and poster colours.During the summer break, I choose to spend my time painting or sketching. That year I decided to make use of old rag cloths to do something different. I made these paintings taking inspiration from the ones I saw on the internet.

This painting, made using poster colours, depicts an Indian form of dance, “Dandiya”. This dance is part of the celebrations of a festival called “Navratri” ( in October). It is believed that on this day “Durga devi” ( goddess Durga) defeated “Mahishasur” (a demon) and the traditional dance, performed using sticks, represents the fight between them.

Fishing In A Village

This painting, depicting a family fishing in a coastal village, is copied from a picture of size 3 x 1.5 inches to an A3 paper. I have made it using poster colours. It was a real challenge, but a great experience.

OBJECTS

The purpose of this painting was to practise making basic objects. I have used watercolours and poster colours here too.

Decent Of River Ganga

This painting is of a Hindu God ‘Shiva’. It depicts a mythological story of how River Ganga (Ganges) came on Earth. It is believed that King Bhagiratha called upon the heavenly river Ganga through his meditation to come on earth and wash away the sins of his ancestors, who were cursed to turn into ash by Sage Kapila. But the force of her fall would have destroyed the Earth. Therefore, Lord Shiva bore her pressure on his head, as she flowed through His locks onto the Earth.
