Equality in Difference

Today we call ourselves evolved individuals because we seem to have started to act upon various forms of discrimination. But the truth is that, just knowing fancy words like ageism, racism, sexism, body shaming, harassment, religist, etc doesn’t really help. That’s just identifying the type of discrimination. What really matters is stepping up and actually taking an action against it.

People think that when you directly show your prejudice, only then it is classified as discrimination. What people fail to realise is that the word, discrimination is just a vague term. Actually, anything you say or do that is derogatory towards another person, the smallest of the comments, is part of discrimination.

But then what’s the solution? The most popular one is that “we should treat everyone as equals”. According to me that’s just nonsense. We can only treat people as equals if everyone was same. But the truth is, no 2 individuals are same! The only thing common among all the people in the world is that everyone is DIFFERENT. The moment we accept that, half the battle is won. Then what’s remaining is just that we respect those differences and show a little empathy.

Just stop suppressing someone because they are different from you, and start appreciating those same qualities that make him/her/them different. Trust me, the world will be a better place

  1. Well said.
I feel, The first step towards any equality is the acceptance of differences.

And different things in existence only make the world a better place. Be it nature – plants & animal species or Humans – different shape size & colours….Harmony is achieved in order.

  2. Very well written and I completely agree with what you say.
The truth of the Universe is that all of us are different from each other.
